About & Contact
NKYbees is a small homestead apiary in Northern Kentucky. We keep bees, tend native plants, and make a handful of honey and beeswax goods by hand. This site is our reference for plant timing, hive records, and sharing what we make.
About the Apiary
We're a small-scale operation in Kenton County — a few hives on a homestead property that backs up to a wooded creek corridor. The bees forage on Black Locust, Tulip Poplar, and a mix of native wildflowers we've been intentionally establishing for years. All of our honey is raw and unfiltered, extracted by hand, and never heat-treated.
We manage our colonies using Integrated Pest Management (IPM) principles — monitoring Varroa loads with alcohol washes before every treatment window, and using the least-invasive intervention that keeps mite counts in a safe range. We're members of the Kentucky State Beekeepers Association (KSBA) and stay connected with the local beekeeping community.
The plant reference pages on this site — native flowers, invasive species, poisonous plants, and wild edibles — are drawn from years of direct observation around ZIP 41018, supplemented by UK Cooperative Extension resources and verified iNaturalist records. Bloom windows are specific to our area, not copied from national guides.
We sell direct. When honey is available, you'll find it in the shop. When it's not, it's because the bees needed their stores or the flow didn't produce enough to harvest. Questions about availability, wholesale, or anything else — use the form below.
